Eating more vegetables
is a great goal
when you're trying
to live a healthier lifestyle
and having a healthy
and delicious dip
at the ready can make
that goal a whole lot easier.
When it comes to dips, however,
the trick is finding
a recipe that doesn't break
the bank on calories.
Hi, I'm Liz Weiss
and for my dip makeover
I ditch the sour cream
and use low-fat Greek yogurt
and fresh herbs instead.
Here’s how you make it,
super easy.
We’re going to begin
with a cup of Greek yogurt.
Now this is plain yogurt.
You can use low-fat yogurt.
That's what I use
in this recipe.
And to that we're going to add
a little bit of mayonnaise.
This is just a quarter cup
of mayonnaise.
Now, getting back
to that Greek yogurt,
I like to use it instead
of sour cream
because it's got more calcium,
it's got more protein.
It's so easy to find at the market
nowadays; it’s more wholesome.
So, go with the Greek yogurt,
go the light mayonnaise
and this is 2 teaspoons
of honey mustard.
I always have honey mustard
in my fridge.
I use it for sandwiches
all the time.
You get a nice big pop
of flavor from this
and believe it
or not we're almost done.
Fresh herbs—fresh dill is
a great ingredient in this dip.
If you don't have dill
you can use parsley,
you can use mint,
you can use basil.
It’s one of those
very flexible recipes.
So I’m just going
to chop up that dill.
You want to add anywhere
from 2 to 4 tablespoons.
And I think it’s okay
to taste as you go
and adjust the amount
of herbs that you add.
All right. Let's go ahead
and add those fresh herbs.
And then you
can stir this together.
You can whisk;
whatever you want to do.
There's no rules when it
comes to making your dip
other than using
nutritious ingredients.
Look at these
gorgeous vegetables.
I always think about the rainbow
when I'm serving vegetables.
That way you're going
to get a variety of colors,
flavors,
and also different nutrients.
I love this recipe for when
the kids get home from school.
You can serve it when
you're having friends over,
if you're having a party.
It's delicious.
It's healthy,
and it's not fat free.
There's a little bit
of fat in our dip,
but fat's important
when you're serving veggies
because a little bit of fat
actually helps your body
to absorb many of the nutrients
in those vegetables.
Traditional dips made
with sour cream
and salty seasoning packets
have double the calories
compared to my dip
filled with natural flavor
from fresh herbs.
Easy, delicious,
and a rainbow of colors.
What more could
a veggie lover ask for.
Mmm! So good!
From Meal Makeovers,
I'm Liz Weiss.
